Body image was the top issue of concern for young Australians in 2007. Around 1 in 3 respondents (32.3%) indicated it was of significant concern. Body image was a significant concern for 36.3% of female respondents and 32.4% of male respondents in South Australia in 2007.

This forum will present current South Australian research on young people and body image and the effects of the media. This forum will provide an opportunity to hear from young people on how they are addressing this issue and the impact the media can have on perceptions of body image.

MS Magazine is an American feminist magazine that focuses on women’s rights and the feminist movement.
The current issue ‘What’s the measure of a woman?’ looks at body image and this article ‘Out of body image’ by Caroline Heldman looks the issue of ‘Self-objectification’—seeing ourselves through others’ eyes, which has the effect of impairing women’s body image, mental health, motor skills and even their sex lives.
